- (continued from previous page)one small window, about three feet by one. The inside of the gable shows that the portion of the castle above ground level was divided into two storeys. Traces of an arch running right across this gable go to show that the "loft" dividing the two storeys was a stone arch. The wall to the height of this arch is several feet thicker than the portion overhead. Nothing remains to show how the upper storey was covered, or of what material the roof was made, if there was any. There are indications also that there was a deep cellar underneath the ground level, but no further description of it is possible, as it is now filled up with stones and debris.A wall about 15 feet high and four feet thick, surrounded the castle. At the western end this came within a few feet of the castle wall, but seemingly there was a much wider space between them on the other three sides. A small portion of this wall is intact also.
