- I was in service in a house in Athea long ago. In the room I was sleeping in there was a saddle and stirrups hanging on the wall at the end of the room. The first night I was there I went to bed about 11 o'clock. About an hour after, I heard the horse being taken out from the stable and brought to the door. The kitchen door was then opened. The figure of a man came into my room and took the saddle and stirrups. I heard no footsteps whatever. About an hour after the horse was brought back. The saddle and stirrups were brought back again. In the morning I told the man of the house what had happened and he told me the same thing happened every night. After a time the man died and his wife was going away by night. She sent the servant boy out for a fist of hay. When he went out there was a man outside up on a horse and every place the boy went the man on horseback was after him and would not let him get any hay.
