    The usual time for marriage in this district is during Shrove, especially from Little Christmas day to Shrove Tuesday. It is said to be unlucky to marry during the month of May or on a (fr) Friday. There is an old saying, "Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for crosses, Friday for crosses and Saturday no luck at all. It was the custom of Strawboys to visit the house of the bride where the party or feast was held in order to celebrate the marriage. They came dressed like "wren boys" and had one over them called the "Captain". It was the duty of the Captain to dance three times with
