- Heroic Deeds.The most heroic deed which the writer has in mind is that which was performed by Mr. Luke Hartigan of Fort Middle in the early seventies of the last century.He jumped from pier to pier where hung an eleven foot spiked gate. It was not the jump itself which made the deed mentioned, but the pier on which he landed was built into the wall of a house. Leaving only about a quarter of its top space exposed, or in other words from four to six inches of landing space, With a wall in front of him.Another heroic deed was that performed by the late Mr. Martin Meagher and a(continues on next page)
