    cattle frequently crossed the river from the city to Parteen.

    1696 - Alderman Thomas Roche was the first man who erected lamps in the streets of the city, and at his own expense.
    On December 6th 1705 a storm began at 10 o'clock at night and lasted till 8 in the morning. The tide of the Shannon covered half of Thomond Bridge and forced up part of Ballsbridge.
    Several persons were drowned.
    The water rose to within thirty yards of the market-house and several persons abandoned their homes.
    Even out in the country horses, cows sheep and a great quantity of corn was lost.
    A West Indie vessel laden with tobacco and indigo was driven in to the land; and a Dutch ship was lost in the river.
    and
    so little rain fell in 1723 that salt water fish came up the quay and a ling was taken between the towers and also there was a second growth of fruit this year.
