    known to Pat Hannan - but the coming and going of the mists to and from the hole was a sure guide to the weather.
    "Cnocán na Crocaire" about a mile and a quarter from the village is a mound of earth near the roadside called Cnocán - the hill of the hangman. People were hanged there in Penal Days. Some years ago a workman went to dig it and found a human skeleton. He told the C.C. of the place and he told him not to have anything to do with it.
    Nearer to the village is "Connery's Cross" where two men were hanged from the shafts of a car. No bridal party coming or going to the Church before or after the marriage ceremony ever passes that cross - to avoid the bad luck of it. A different road even though it be miles longer is taken. That custom is still held.
    When moving out of a house the cat is left behind - bad luck to carry him.
    Doctor Duncan was the local landlord here a good man - he used to collect the rents here in the Dispensary - it was known that he replaced the cows that died for some of his tenants.

    Smith of Limerick was landlord of a district called Curraheen in this parish. He evicted several of his tenants - Quane, Gorman, and Barret. Quane's cows were taken next morning to the pound in
