Lightning killed them, and horse and dray were also destroyed.During the big storm of 1839. several incidents occurred:- The steeple of Burly was blown down. A woman named Hill in this parish was looking for the old age pension, and the only record she had of her age was that she was born on this night [?] "Big Wind"Her mother's house was blown away. The lives of the baby and mother were saved by a [?].
- About eighty years ago there was an old school in Newtown, a townland on the border of Gallally and Knocklong parishes. It was situated on a by-road. The walls were made of mud and it had a thatched roof.Twenty-five pupils (about) attended daily.The teacher got lodging in a different house each night.
