    copy books. The boys sat on planks of timber along by the walls of the house.
    He taught English but although he spoke Irish himself he did not teach it to the scholars. The advanced scholars were known as "Wasters"
    I attended the Hedge School in High Street from 1864 until 1868 and then when the Anglesboro' National School was opened on the 5th of July 1860 I was one of the first pupils put on the "books". The Hedge School in High Street(i.e. Barnagurraha, Anglesboro' Co. Limerick) was closed in 1868.
    The school was a little thatched house on the side of the road and was built where Jack Walsh of High Street now makes his rick of hay in the yard beside his little shop.
    The teacher's name was Pat Fitzgerald and he taught me for three years until the Angelsboro'
