(continued from previous page)the giving of a share of money and a cow or horse thrown in.About 1840 people were married in their own homes.After the marriage the people threw rice at the newlyweds and they drove off in a side-car or common cart with several old boots and shoes tied to the back.Then the sport used to be returning from the Church. The people raced for the brides house as hard as ever they could and whoever reached the house first got a kiss from the bride. Some men were noted as winners of races from the Church after the wedding and their horses were the talk of the parish.There is a man still alive in Ballyfaskin, Anglesboro, Co. Limk called Michael McGrath and the bride who sat in his car on her way to be married was always and is still known to be lucky and is always the mother of a large family.(continues on next page)
