- About fifty years ago the people made candles out of tallow. The tallow was taken and melted on a fire in a pot. A yarn-thread was then procured and it was doubled two or three times, leaving the loops on each end in the form of a wax-end.
Next a metal shape or model about ten inches long, and an inch in circumference was got. There was one pointed end on this to form the top of the candle.
The yarn-thread wick was put twisted through the model, and a nail was holding it at both ends. The model was then put pointed end standing in a sod of turf. The melted tallow was then(continues on next page)- Collector
