- There is supposed to have been a "Souper's Kitchen" built by "Wheelers" in Pallasbeg, Cappamore. The story of the "Souper's Kitchen ' is that every morning there used to be a bowl of soup and a slice of bread given to any of the famine stricken Catholics who would change their religion. Very few did so however, and those who did were afterwards called car-brachs and were despised and avoided by their fellow men.
My Grandmother R.I.P often told me that on their way to school they used to see the soup and bread on the window of a souper's kitchen (not in this parish) and the fear of the place was so instilled into them at home that they(continues on next page)
