    time ago, has just occurred to me now and it goes to prove how down trodden was the local tenant. Some poor man in the district was in need of a fire and he decided to take courage and cut a branch of a tree, on his own land. He proceeded to do so and alas ! as he was at work who should pass in her carriage, and see him in the act, but the landlord, Mrs Lloyd. She was highly offended and ordered the poor man to be punished severely for daring to cut the branch. (I cannot remember the punishment now, but I remember to have remarked when I heard the story that if he had taken the family jewels, it could hardly be worse) However, some of the local people tried to urge her to let off the poor man, but she only answered that - "She could not forgive him as he had spoiled the appearance of her favourite tree by cutting the branch". So the poor man was punished, although the tree was on his own land, and his children were cold for want of a fire.
