  1. Years ago there lived in the parish of Lorrha a very well-to-do family and the son fell in love with the servant girl and wanted to get married to her, but the father would not allow it. So a local poet composed a song of which the following is a portion:-
    Oh father dearest father
    Don't part me from my dear
    I would not give my servant-maid for ten thousand pounds a year.
    If I were heir to England's crown it's her I'd make my Queen
    And in high renown I'd wear the crown for the maid of sweet Gurteen.
    This song was composed by Larry Dillon of Rathcabin.
    "The old Leather Breeches"
    This song was composed by a man in the County Tipperary the exact place in Tipperary is unknown.
