house and induced him to tell where the treasure was. Malachy agreed to show him the exact spot, and promised him that he would assist him to unearth the treasure. They set out in search of it, and when they reached the spot, began their excavations without delay. When digging for some time they reached a huge stone slab. Malach invested a crowbar under it, and tried to lift it, but all of a sudden, he fell down helpless, and Carthy was terrified by a strange sound, like the droning of bees.He had to assist Malachy back to his lodgings, where he got suddenly ill, and died in a few days.
This treasure is supposed to be a large urn of pure gold, in the tenth-century coins. Its present day value is estimated at £10,000. It is supposed to be guarded by a swarm of bees, which were placed there by the Danes, who were steeped in the witchcraft that was consistent with the heathenism of the Danish tribes at the time.
