  2. Over s hundred years ago, school was taught where the present Church in Tour now stands.
    It was an old thatched building. Mass used to be said there on Sundays and it was used as a school during the week. A teacher called Thomas Kennedy taught in the school. He was not a stranger. The teacher had lodged in the houses.
    Reading and writing was taught. Irish was spoken by master and pupil. One book used was called "Reading made Easy" Writing was done on a slate and the pupils sat on a stone.
    Long ago school was held in an old work-shop in Fiddane, Newport. A man named Maloney owned
