- Long ago the people had very small thattched houses made of mud and sticks. the people thatched theri houses with rushes and straw. Most of the people had the bed in the kitchen and it was called a "settle-bed". There were some very small houses which had no windows.
The floors were made of mud and clay. Half doors are common in the district, but they are not as plentiful as they were. Turf and wood are usd in making the fire. The people used candles to give them light. They knew nothing about parafin oil.- Collector
