    side was to take the ball home. It was started in a field bordering the river. In this field there was a lime kiln. During the course of the game the ball went into the kiln. The eager combatants followed closely on the ball and crowded into the kiln. Then the [?] began. One player unable to join in the fray and eager to do so leaped into the strugling men. Eventually the ball was brought out of the kiln. Gradually the play veered round to the church yard which was situated nearby. There they fought it out among the tombstones and the east side won the day. In this game the players did not wear togs.
