  1. Amongst our local ruins the far famed abbey of Holycross. It was founded by "Domhnall Mór O'Brien" for the Benedictines but was later given to the Cistercians. It got its name from a piece of the True Cross which was given by the pope to the grandson of Brian Boru. It is now kept by the nuns in the Ursaline Convent in Blackrock. In Thurles we have an old castle on the banks of the Suir. It was founded by the Butlers.
