    The setting sun was glowing
    A lurid blaze of beauty on
    The "Golden Vale" bestowing (?)
    The Autumn flowers were fading away
    Their colour growing pale -
    But there's a flower no seasons fade,
    That blooms in yonder vale.

    'Twas such an eve I first beheld
    This queen of rural pride
    A charm o'er my senses spread
    Thought all in passion wild -
    Old Erin's Vallies yet can boast
    A theme for Minstrel lays,
    No fairer queen of song inspired
