   One day a poor boy got a slice of oaten meal bread from and old woman living in a house and butter on it. When he had the butter eaten off he handed back the slice of bread and said, "Here is your board and thanks mam". He thought it was a board it was so hard because it was made with water but the rich people made it with milk. The bread would be made a couple of times a week because griddle bread would be very big. All the old people lived on "curds" which means thick milk and barley bread or oaten bread. They never drank tea only at Xmas. Barley bread was by no means good for there is an old saying "Barley bread would kill a man dead". In olden times they would grind the wheat in a quern and would make what the called "Praipín". New milk was put on it and eaten with a spoon on a platter, or a wooden plate.
