    On Saint Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze,
    Although he be little, he is plain to be seen,
    Remember old Ireland a wearing the green,
    From bush to bush, from tree to tree,
    In Cooladerry we broke his knee,
    If your answer be the best,
    I hope in heaven your soul will rest,
    If your answer be too small,
    It will not agree with the wren boys atall,
    Up with the kettle, and down with the pan,
    Give us our answer and let us be gone.

    They usually get about sixpence in each house and when evening come they divide it among themselves and enjoy themselves with the money.
