- One story goes that this road got its name because the men who made it only earned fourpence a day.-Another story goes that at on time a rent collector could get only "fourpence" on the whole road - people were so poor.
- So called because when Scully lived there there were so many trees on this narrow road, at either side that the road was dark - even in the day. Most of those trees are cut down now.
