- There are not many monuments in this locality. In a field of the stud farm about half a mile south-west of Limerick Junction there lies a large flat stone which has the shape of a coffin. Nobody knows the origin of it, but tradition tells that a chieftain, slain at the battle of Sologhead in 968, was buried in that stone receptacle.
It is said that whenever an attempt was made to remove it, a roar like the bellowing of a bull was heard. The stone is the work of skilled hands and ornamental tracery can be seen around the side of the lid.
