“Eamon O' Ryan known in song and story as Eamonn a Cnuic was born in the townsland of Knocneahill, Upperchurch.”
He studied for the priesthood but it is learned that he left college in the troubled period and got a commission in the Irish Army and fought under the command of Sarsfield at the battles of Aughrim and Limerick. He was a splendid type of Tipperary manhood as Davis wrote:-

That sweeps the hills of Tipperary"Soon after the signing of the Treaty of Limerick, he with faithful comrades had to live the outlaw's brief career. He was a much wanted man, with a price on his head for the hungry Saxon Wolves were howling for his blood. He was in love with a beautiful Co.
