- About forty years ago there was a man named John McMahon and he lived in the parish of Kilmaley in the Co. of Clare. When he was draining his land near a fort a neighbouring man came to him and he at his work and he said to him if the land was his he would not interfere with the fort. John laughed at his advice and continued his work of opening the drain. As he came to the fort he had to root a tree and as he was digging it he was paralysed. He was that way for many years and then died.
