- In ancient times there were many old roads throughout Ireland which have now disappeared.
One of the most notable in this district is a old road which leads from Carravorin to the now Galway Road, and it continues over to Drumcliffe. All traces of that road have now gone.
Another old road is traceable from where it leaves the railway line almost opposite St Joseph's Well. It joins the Galway Road above Hannon's of the Limekiln.
There is an old road in Doora which goes from Doora Abbey to Gauris. This road was built for Relief Word during the Penal Days, the men having to work from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for twopence.
There was one an old road leading from Ennis to Barefield. This road was also built for relief(continues on next page)- Collector
