On Ballybarrack hillside
There stands a little shrine,*
Where blessed Oliver Plunkett lived
In far off Pagan time
The Shepherd of the Irish flock
Who many trials did bear
To save the souls of Irish men
Entrusted to his care.

At Tyburn one morning
on the 11th of July,
They placed a halter round his neck,
And led him forth to die.
They tortured his poor body
But their tortures could not kill
The good & loyal spirit
