- Blackrock, where I go to School, is a seaside village with a population of about 700 people.
it is near Dundalk, which is called the "Gap of the North", and was the scene of many stirring events in the History of Ireland, especially in the days of Cuchulainn.
It is said that Queen Maeve led her army across the spot where Blackrock now stands, during the war with Ulster over the Cooley bull.
Lurgangreen, a small hamlet about one mile S. of Blackrock, on the main Dublin-Dundalk road, is also very historical. A great battle was fought here on the banks of the R. Fane in 1180 between John de Courcy & the O'Hanlons of Armagh.
Dunmahon Castle is situated about 2 1/2 miles from Blackrock in the heart of Clermont. Henry Townley, High Sheriff(continues on next page)- Collector
