    The "borrowed days" are the first three days of April. There are supposed to be cold and wild days. There is an old story about these days. Once there was an old cow who thought when she had weathered March that she was safe. She frisked around the field boasting but March borrowed three days from April & killed the old cow with cold & rain & wind.
