- This school is situated in the townland of Painestown and in the Barony of Lower Duleek. The parish is called Yellow Furze and though it is often called Beauparc this not its proper name. Yellow Furze ( Aitheann Buidhe ) is the correct name which has come down to us from the time our forefathers tried to hide their church in the Furze in Penal times ( we wrote about this on another page )According to the few old people who live here the appearance of the village has changed greatly in the past 100 years.Even Mr. Elmes who has been teaching here for a good number of years says the entire appearance is altered owing to the old mud walled houses which of course were all thatched being replaced by new slated cottages. There was a "street" of these old houses between this and Dollardstown at right angles to the main road.It is gone altogether - even the entrance to the old road is not noticeable.
