ring belonged to a Bishop or more likely to a mitred abbot as there is the outline of a serpent right round it, its head touching the stone one side, and its tail the other, and on it are inscribed the words Maria, gratia plena.
Near the place where the ring was found there was a Mass rock. In 1798 a priest was shot by the English soldiers. The land belongs to Mr Halligan.
