- This well is in Cherrymount, a townland beyond Maperath which is 2 1/2 miles north from Kells.
A protestant lady named Mrs Challoner had a dog that was suffering from the mange. She took him to the well and washed him there. He was cured of his distemper but the well dried up at once and never re-appeared.- Collector

- Saint Kieran and Saint Columba had once a dispute about the size of their respective parishes. Saint Columba thought Kells Parish too small and Kieran Parish too big. Saint Kieran on the contrary, thought Kieran Parish too small and Kells Parish too big.(continues on next page)
