- There are a lot of forts in this district. The fairies are supposed to have built the forts to dwell in them. They are usually round with a high bank round them and a deep trench outside the bank. People never plough the land or cut the trees of a fort because it is said that some misfortune would befall him who did it. There is a fort in Meath Hill called ballan's fort. There are trees planted round it. Mcbann's fort is in bortubbar, and Martin's fort in Kellystown. They are both round forts and there are trees planted round them.
