- Hedge SchoolThere was a hedge school at Connell's bridge Rosmead and it was taught by night. It was taught by a man named Master Murphy. It was nearly all English language that was spoken and very little Irish. The master was a stranger. They learned sums and poetry and history and Geography. They used to write on slates. Bartle Bennett Rosmead who died about 40 years ago went to that school.Collected by Mattie Daly Mulligonstown, Delvin, Co. Westmeath.Told by John Dunne Rosmead Delvin Co. Westmeath.
