  1. In the year of the famine time, there was a very poor man who worked at Knockdrin near Mullingar in Westmeath at waterworks. His wife used to come with a very humble dinner every day as his wage was very small and he could not afford much food. One day he lay down to sleep after his dinner beside a small mound or fort. When he woke up, he found a small rusty bar about a foot in length at his head He brought it home and gave it to the children to (be) scrape(ng) it. The steward of the place saw them scraping it one day.
