On this page
- A lime kiln is first hollowed out of the side of a hill. It is left open on the top and a hole or door on the bottom. It is then lined with bricks. A layer of turf or culm is first on the (a layer) bottom and then a layer of lime-stone. Another layer of turf or culm and a layer of limestone are places on (the) top of that again; and so on until the lime kiln is full. While it is yet burning, some of the lime that is burned can be taken out at the bottom and more turf (or) and limestone put in on the top.
