- The old people have stories about the Great Famine of 1846-47. It affected the district very much. The district was very thickly populated before that time, but most of the people went to America. People still point out sites of houses then occupied and now in ruins. There is one in Donohoe's field near our house, and another in front of Clonmoral boreen.(continues on next page)
