- (continued from previous page)was borne off the field triumphantly.
All though twenty seven feet was the longest throw he ever made he won several weight throwing contests and is the proud possessor of several prizes. Won at various meetings all over the country.
A few miles away there lives a man named David Coffey who although not a professional weight, thrower surprised a large crows of people by an amazing display of strength at a sports meeting in Rosemount, some years ago. Two men
(were met assembled) for a weight throwing contest, but when they were ready for the contest it was found that the weight had been mislaid, and an arrival was procured from the local blacksmiths forge . It was much more difficult to fling it and when the champion was awarded the prize it was announced his thrown had been fourteen feet.
Where upon David entered the field and lifting the anvil by the "beckhorn" he threw it fifteen feet. When this was announced the crowd commenced to cheer and the man who had been awarded the prize went up to congratulated him and then he handed him the prize that he himself had received.- Collector
