- A cooper is a man who makes churns and other dairy utensils such as keelers prints etc. The wood that is used for churns is chiefly Sycamore and sometimes elm. There are hoops put around the churn like barrels to keep the wood together.
My father told me that a man named Will Allen lived near here. He was called the Cooper Allen as he used to supply all the dairy vessels to the farmers. It must be forty years since he ceased the work. He is dead about twenty years.- Collector
