- The local fairs are held in Granard, Castlepollard and Mostrim. They are always held in those towns at present. It is very seldom buyers carry on business at a farmer's house but long ago they used to carry on a lot of business at farmers' houses.
Long ago the fairs were held in forts. The oldest fairs of Granard were held on the third of May and on the first of October. These fairs were held till last year but they are going to be held no longer. They were called the "Custom Fairs". About a hundred years ago people would be going for a week before the fairs. They would stay in the town till the fairs were over. People came from all parts of Ireland to these two old fairs.
At present all fairs are held on the streets. The old fairs were held in a place called the green. The old fairs(continues on next page)- Collector
