- (continued from previous page)The cows have names such as the "speckled cow" "the grey cow, " and the brown cow is called "Brownie". The house in which the cow is kept is called the byre. The cow is tied around the neck with a chain. Sometimes they are tied around the legs, if they kick when they are being milked. More times they are tied from the front foot to the horn if they are thieving.
When they are hunting the cows they say How! How! The horse is also a very useful animal on the farm. Most of the horses on the farm have names such as "Jannie" and "Maggie".The name of the house in which the horse is kept is called the stable. When they are driving the horse they say "gee-up". When they are calling the horse they say "phttough"!
The house in which the geese are kept is called the geese house. When they are calling the geese they say "gush, gush!"
The house in which the ducks are kept is called the duck house. When they are calling the ducks they say wheet! wheet!
