   and he would hit someone with it and if he was not able to tell who hit him he would be slapped.

   Harrow

   A few lads would get around the fire. One would get a rope about a foot long, and he would have a knot on the end of it. He would make the others shut their eyes, and he would hit some of them with it. Then he would ask them who hit them and if they were not able to say who hit them they would get slapped.

   Long ago the people who died were left two or three days in the house. The people were never brought to the chapel. The people used to have to carry the corpse three or four miles to the grave yard. Nine or ten men crying used to follow the corpse. They were dressed in white and bits of cords tied around their middle. It used to be called the Irish cry. Fred Hughes, Baylin
