- The year before the Famine was the best year ever was in Ireland for potatoes. They were so plentiful that they were thrown in ditches and at the end of every field and left to rot. They grew so big that the people called them "AMADAWNS" and made little of them everyway. The next year they grew well but rotted in the ground and in pits. This is what Father Fagen C.C. told me. He also said that God was angry with the people for making little of the good crop he gave to them the year before.(continues on next page)
