- People wore boots long ago when they were about twenty years of age. A man named Christopher Coffey lived in Ballymahon and he never wore a boot or shoe in Winter or in Summer and still he was the strongest man in the country. When people asked him why he did not put on his boots he would say "that he would wear God's leather with God's weather" Mrs Mulloolly Fermoyle never wore a boot or a shoe.
Children put on boots the present day when they are about two years of age. They go barefooted in Summer and they put them on in Winter and in Spring. About the first of November they put them on and they take them off at the first of May.
