- (continued from previous page)people know that the churning is finished. Water is poured on during the churning to warm it and help make the butter. Then the dash is moved over and back in the churn to gather the butter. The butter is taken out and put in a well scrubbed dish then cold water is poured over it and afterwards some salt. Then the patters are well washed with salt and water and the butter is made into bars.
