Weather Lore
22nd Nov. 1937 An old man named Barney Finnan who is 77 years of age, and who lives in the townland of Mullingee in the parish of Granard in the Co. Longford, told me that he often heard from the old people the following sayings.- "If we see a sharp look on the moon that we will have rain; if the sun goes down very dull in the evening we will have rain also, when we see the animals of the farm going into the shed without anyone driving them, and also when we see cats scraping their nails against a wall or a tree.
We will have a storm when we have the wind whistling in the chimney and when there is a blue blaze in the fire.
