29th Nov; 1937 There is a hero living at the present day called Sean Duffy, and in his youth he lived with his father, mother and two brothers in a house at Ballinalee five miles from Granard.
He went to Ballinalee school for ten years, and afterwards went to a College in Longford, and spent six years there, and when he came home he was a boy of 18 years. His father had a farm, and he used to help in the work on the farm, and at night he used to study books , that he got from Dublin; he lived like this for four years, and after some time his father, and mother died, and he was left to work for himself.
During the "Black and Tans" there was an ambush at Clonfinn (3 1/2 miles from Granard) in the parish of Granard, Co. Longford on the 9th April, 1921, and he was in charge. One night he(continues on next page)- Collector
