- 68 A Ghost Story There was a ghost in a house in the townland of Garvagh near Ballinalee. The people wanted to get rid of the ghost so they went to the parish priest and asked him to banish it. His name was Father Mac Carthy and he was a big strong man.
Father Mac Carthy was settling the spirit between the forth and the water of a lough and he said it would have to remain there for seven years.
The ghost spoke and said "When the seven years are up I'll make Garvagh ring". The priest said forever you will stay here and the ghost said O, cruel Mac Carthy! O, cruel Mac Carthy. The poor priest didn't bring a long life.
