- In Whitestown - near my home - there is an ancient stile called "Betty's Stile. It is covered with moss and grass. Facing this stile is a great high wall which surrounds Johnstown Wood.
Every night a black dog is to be seen coming over that stile and crossing the road to the wall opposite. It lays its paws on the top of that high wall and goes over without jumping at all.It is tremendous - as big as a calf a year old and is as black as coal.Near this spot some years ago there was an accident and someone was killed- Collector
