- There we a lot of local place names long ago. Here are some of them.
Kate Doyle's field is a field where she had a house long ago. The ruins of the old stones is there still.
There is another field called Biddy the Rath where she had a house and where the fairies lived also. That field is now called the little house field.
There was another field long ago called Long Poigues Land. He had a house there also. There is an electric pole in the middle of that field now,
All these houses long ago we called the mud walled cabins. They were made of stones & mud.
Here are some other fields:-
The Blawn Las, the Gárdín,
the Briary Park.
It is called the Blawn Las because it is a bushy field.
It is called the Gárdín because there was a garden in it long ago.
It is called the Briary Park because there are a lot of long briars in it. - Long ago there were woollen mills in Brown's Castle.
The owner of the woollen mills was Edward Fortune. He lived at Brown's Castle. He used to buy wool from the farmers around. Then spin it into thread, then dye it in colours and weave it(continues on next page)- Collector
